Germany midfielder Mesut Ozil has declared he will have no qualms when Joachim Loew’s men take on Turkey in Friday’s Euro 2012 qualifier in Berlin.

While the 21-year-old Oezil speaks fluent Turkish and is proud of his family roots in the country, he will have only one thing in mind as the teams line up – a win for Germany.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Oezil explained that he had always wanted to wear the white shirt of the national side.…

germany euro qualifying win

Germany continued their smooth start to Euro 2012 qualifying with a comprehensive victory over Berti Vogts’ Azerbaijan in Cologne.

Substitute Heiko Westermann made the breakthrough in the 28th minute and goals from Lukas Podolski and Miroslav Klose in first-half stoppage time made the result safe.

Rashad Sadygov’s own goal eight minutes after the interval stretched the hosts’ advantage and, although Vagif Javadov pulled one back four minutes later courtesy of an error by Manuel Neuer, further goals in the final five minutes from Klose and Holger Badstuber sealed the rout.

Germany are now top of Group A with 2 wins and a superior goal difference.…

Belgium v Germany - EURO 2012 Qualifier

Germany started their Euro 2012 qualifying campaign with a hard fought 1-0 victory against Belgium in Brussels. Friday’s victory gives Joachim Loew’s side the best of starts in Group A but the World Cup semi-finalists Germany were some way from the form they showed in South Africa in July.

The Belgian hosts were the better team in the first half and had it not been for a couple of good saves by Manuel Neuer Germany would have found themselves a goal or two down. Germany showed a lot of respect to Belgium’s young stars.

However, veteran striker Miroslav Klose struck six minutes after the interval with Germany capitalizing on a mistake by central defender Daniel van Buyten. Bastian Schweinsteiger grabbed possession and passed the ball to his Bayern Munich teammate Thomas Mueller who set up Klose for his 53rd goal for Germany.…

Euro 2012 Qualifying Draw: Germany to face Turkey

The German national team coached by Joachim Löw have drawn Turkey, the team they beat 3-2 in the semi-final at Euro 2008, for their Euro 2012 qualification campaign. The other opponents are 1980 European Championships finalists Belgium, neighbours Austria plus Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan in Group A. The qualifiers are set to begin this September and finish in November 2011.

Fabio Capello’s England will face old rivals Wales. England have drawn John Toshack’s Wales side in Group G as well as Montenegro, Bulgaria and Switzerland for a place at Euro 2012.

Euro 2008 winners Spain, who beat Germany 1-0 to claim the Henri Delauney trophy in Vienna on June 29, 2008, face arguably their biggest test against the Czech Republic as well as Scotland, Lithuania and Liechtenstein in Group I.

Current World Cup holders Italy, who had a poor Euro 2008 campaign by their own standards, have drawn World Cup qualifiers Serbia, as well as Slovenia, Estonia, the Faroe Islands and Northern Ireland in Group C.

World Cup runners-up France, who had drawn the Republic of Ireland in Saturday’s practice draw, are up against Romania, Belarus, Albania, Luxembourg and Bosnia-Herzegovina in Group D.

Late Podolski strike saves Germany

Late Podolski strike saves Germany

South Africa-bound Germany needed a 90th-minute goal from Lukas Podolski to salvage a 1-1 draw as Finland came close to a win in their final World Cup qualifier. Germany had booked their berth at South Africa 2010 with a 1-0 victory over Russia on Saturday.

Löw had opted to rest Bastian Schweinsteiger, Miroslav Klose and Per Mertesacker from the side which started in Moscow, but Löw still had captain Michael Ballack and Philipp Lahm here.

Finland, who were only playing for pride with World Cup qualification beyond them, opened the scoring when Jonatan Johannsson struck in the 11th minute. Hoffenheim’s Andreas Beck failed to stop Roni Porokara putting in a cross from the flanks, then Roman Eremenko beat Lahm to the header before Johannsson was the quickest to the ball and drilled his shot home from close range.

Johannsson had also scored in the 3-3 draw against Germany in Helsinki last September when Germany dropped their only other points of the campaign. It looked for most of the game like the hosts would finish with their first defeat in qualification games until Podolski was presented with a simple tap in.

Finland had other chances in the first-half as both Eremenko’s …
