Germany are planning to bide their time and eventually wear down defensive-minded Greece when they meet in the Euro 2012 quarterfinals Friday.

The Germans advanced through Group B with three wins from three games but the team is bracing for a much tougher defense than what they faced against Portugal, Netherlands and Denmark.

Greece conceded only five goals in 10 qualifiers, though they also let in three goals in three Group A games, advancing as runners-up behind the Czech Republic.…

EM-Qualifikation Deutschland - Kasachstan

Coach Joachim Low has hinted that he is considering starting Miroslav Klose against Netherlands.

Bayern Munich star Mario Gomez was selected to start Germany’s opening game against Portugal and rewarded Low’s faith with the only goal of the match.

Germany charged by UEFA for fan behaviour

UEFA has charged Germany over the behaviour of their fans in their first match of Euro 2012 against Portugal, who have also been reprimanded for causing a delay to the start of the second half.

A Mario Gomez goal gave Germany a 1-0 victory in Lviv but the game was disrupted on several occasions by supporters of Joachim Low’s side throwing rolled up paper towards the Portugal players on the pitch, while a smoke bomb was also let off in the stands.

The stadium announcer pleaded with the crowd to stop, warning them that their team could face disciplinary action and that the match could be abandoned, though the missiles continued to rain down.

Portugal, meanwhile, may also face a fine after coming out late for the second half and delaying kick-off. Manchester City were forced to pay €30,000 for a similar incident in a Europa League match against Sporting Lisbon in the 2011-12 season.

“UEFA confirms that it has opened two disciplinary proceedings following Saturday’s UEFA EURO 2012 Group B match between Germany and Portugal in Lviv,” a statement said.

“The German Football Association (DFB) is charged with the throwing of missiles by its supporters, while the Portuguese Football Federation …
