Former German star player and manager Jürgen Klinsmann has been named the new head coach of the US men’s national team.

Klinsmann has lived in southern California since 1998 and becomes the first foreign-born US coach to hold the position in 16 years. He takes over the post from Bob Bradley, who was sacked on Thursday after more than four years in the job.…

The Germans wrapped up their account at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Mexico City’s Estadio Azteca with a place on the podium after beating Brazil in a third-place thriller that produced seven goals.

A wide-open and goal-littered affair that ended 4-3 in favour of the Germans served as a perfect warm-up for the big event later in the day and a fitting advertisement for the quality on display here at these 14th U-17 world finals.…

The crowd of 26,067 at Wolfsburg witnessed the biggest upset in the history of the Women’s World Cup.

But that is not what they came to see. They came for a celebration, not the devastation and disbelief on the faces of their team’s players at the final whistle after 120 minutes of heart-wrenching play.

This was supposed to be another step in the march to a third straight World Cup title for Germany — only this time on its home soil. This was supposed to be a tournament that lasted for another week, with the Germans taking their assumed place in the final.
