Germany Soccer WCup Oracle

Paul the Octopus, who correctly predicted the outcome of games during this year’s World Cup soccer tournament, has died.

The eight-tentacled cephalopod oracle died of natural causes, the aquarium where he lived said Tuesday. He was 2 and a half.

Germany extended their 100% record in Euro 2012 qualifying Group A to four games with three unanswered goals in the second half at Kazakhstan’s Ortalyk Tsentralnyi Stadium.

The visitors were heavy favourites to despatch the minnows but with the match scoreless at half-time there will no doubt have been some nerves in the Germany ranks.

Miroslav Klose finally got his side on the scoresheet three minutes into the second half, while Mario Gomez and Lukas Podolski also found the target to give a more comfortable look to the scoreline.

German football fans protest against ticket prices

Around 4,000 supporters from football clubs across Germany united on Sunday to demonstrate peacefully against rising ticket prices and the commercialisation of the nation’s favourite sport.

The event was attended by supporters’ groups from more than fifty clubs in the first, second and third divisions of Germany’s Bundesliga with a rally held in front of the Rotes Rathaus in Berlin’s city centre.

The fans gripes are against rising ticket prices, fan unfriendly kick-off times and heavy-handed action by the police.

Mesut Ozil helped Germany to their third straight Euro 2012 qualifying win with a goal against his ancestors’ nation in a 3-0 win at Berlin’s Olympiastadion.

The Real Madrid forward scored for Joachim Low’s side in the 79th minute after Miroslav Klose had netted his fourth goal so far in the qualifying campaign in the 42nd minute. Klose then wrapped up the victory third three minutes from time.

Oezil ‘proud to play for Germany’ ahead of Turkey clash

Germany midfielder Mesut Ozil has declared he will have no qualms when Joachim Loew’s men take on Turkey in Friday’s Euro 2012 qualifier in Berlin.

While the 21-year-old Oezil speaks fluent Turkish and is proud of his family roots in the country, he will have only one thing in mind as the teams line up – a win for Germany.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Oezil explained that he had always wanted to wear the white shirt of the national side.
