Yebo! – Germany says “Yes”

“Yebo” is Zulu and means “Yes!”. Which is what the German players wore on the front of their shirts at their first practice in South Africa, Monday late afternoon in Atteridgeville’s “Super Stadium”.

“We want to say ‘yes’ to this World Cup and the host-nation South Africa. And we want to say ‘yes’ to playing offensively and to hopefully a successful tournament”, said team manager Oliver Bierhoff.

More than 2000 fans attended the open practice session, just hours following the team’s arrival in their team headquarter near Pretoria. The sound of the Vuvuzelas greeted the team, as well as a huge sign saying “Welcome to South Africa!”.

The team’s psychologist, Dr. Hans-Dieter Hermann, had found the term from the Zulu-language, which is one of eleven official languages in South Africa, spoken by roughly one-fifth of the population.

“We have a very positive attitude. If we can say ‘Yebo’ each and every day, it should be an unforgettable time for our players and the fans”, said Bierhoff.
