Schweinsteiger may be winning fitness race

Germany midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger took part in full training on Saturday as he battles to be fit to face England.

Schweinsteiger had to be substituted with a thigh problem in the 1-0 win over Ghana on Wednesday and there were serious doubts over his availability for Sunday, but it appears he is now likely to have some involvement in the match.

Team manager Oliver Bierfhoff has indicated the camp are confident he will be ready, but goalkeeping coach Andreas Kopke said: “The final decision will not be made until tomorrow.”

Defender Jerome Boateng, another doubt with a muscle problem, also took part in the training session, but striker Cacau has been ruled out.
