Player Profile: Sami Khedira

A dynamic and industrious central midfielder with great skill on the ball, Khedira has the gargantuan task of stepping into the shoes of injured national team captain Michael Ballack.

He came through the ranks of hometown club Stuttgart, breaking into their first XI in the Bundesliga-winning season of 2006-07.

Khedira, who usually plays in midfield, has appeared 30 times in several German youth national teams, captaining the U21 squad during the European Under-21 Championships in Sweden, that Germany won.

“We have seen the progress Khedira has made and he has earned the chance to play in this World Cup,” says coach Joachim Low. “He has a great deal of potential and is a player who has already been given a lot of responsibility at Stuttgart. He also shows that he has matured.”

His father is from Tunisia and his mother is from Germany. Sami’s younger brother Rani plays for the youth ranks of VfB Stuttgart and is a member of the Germany U15 team.

He doesn’t really play the role as a midfield defender leaving Schweinsteiger behind to take his place. Schweinsteiger is a winger and supposed to helped in attacking but got to stay behind because of Khedira’s attacking play.

    But so far, he’s ok…

The road to the final has not yet come to an end; the party will go on. In South Africa, Germany and Malaysia. We are all one team. And we all have a very big goal. Together we can do it! GO TO THE NEXT LEVEL. WE LOVE YOU.
