Women: Scoreless tie against Japan

In Mannheim, German fans endured a 0-0 in their next-to-last test before the start of the European Championships in Finland. “We had many chances, but we were unable to score”, German coach Silvia Neid said, following the game against a resilient Japanese team.

Germany had the advantage, but Birgit Prinz, Inka Grings and Simone Laudehr all missed the goal by hitting the post.

In Finland, the German women start with the match against Norway on August, 24th. In group B, France (August 27th) and Iceland (August 30th) are the other two opponents. The German group matches all take place in Tampere.

Four days ago, the defending European champions had been impressive, defeating the Netherlands 6-0 in front of a capacity crowd in Mannheim. Against Japan, the German team needed 15 minutes for their first scoring opportunity. Then, Nadine Angerer had to show her skills against Shinobu Ohno to prevent the guests from taking the lead.

Following the haltime break, the DFB-team picked up the pace, resulting in two shots on the crossbar by Inka Grings (47.) and Simone Laudehr. When Kozue Ando hit only wood as well, the scoreless tie was ready to go into the books.
