Timoschuk close to finalising deal to Bayern

Bayern Munich are close to completing the transfer of Zenit St Petersburg midfielder Anatoli Timoschuk, according to a report in Germany.

The 29-year-old has been a Bayern target since last summer and he has already visited the Bavarian city for negotiations, which ended without an official announcement.

However, the Bild am Sonntag newspaper claims that an agreement was indeed struck which would see Timoschuk become a Bayern player at the end of the season for a fee of around 10 million euros – the same amount of money Bayern have just earned from selling Lukas Podolski to Cologne.

The deal would mean Timoschuk remaining with the Russian side on loan until the summer, although he would officially become a Bayern player from February 28 when he is believed to have a get-out clause in his contract.

He would replace Toni Kroos, who yesterday completed a move on loan to Bayer Leverkusen until 2010.
